Pilgrimage 1895

1895. One of the first pilgrimage processions leaving the railway station. Around 1500 people processed to the top of the Tor and then down to the Tor House for tea.

Aerial view of Tor House, Chilkwell street. From 1886 this contained a Roman Catholic chapel and housed around 50 boys training to be priests.

Early 1960s. Pilgrimage procession reaches the convent field. St Louis pupils can be seen in the foreground. Morrisons supermarket now stands here. The convent is behind the tree, far left, and Street road is in the background.
